Append date with empty day or month

Composition settings, Append date button.
Let's say the month field is set to September, the day is empty, and the year is 1987. The result of the button is this:
September , 1987
It should be:
September, 1987
If both month and day are empty, the result is:
, 1987
It should be:
1987
